Pipe monitoring customers can configure custom water temperature thresholds. The reporting module will then display in real time when water temperatures have fallen outside of these thresholds

What is a threshold?
A threshold is a setting applied to each pipe type. It defines the temperature that water within the pipe must be in order for that pipe to pass or fail during a reporting period.
Thresholds can be set as a single threshold (less than or more than) or as a range threshold (any temperature between a minimum and maximum). See below for more detail.
Single thresholds
Single thresholds are useful for pipes where the water only needs to be less than or more than a specific temperature once during a reporting period.
‘Less than’ single threshold example
The above chart shows a single threshold (less than) applied to a cold water pipe where the temperature needs to be less than 20°C once during the reporting period to pass.
‘More than’ single threshold example
The above chart shows a single threshold (more than) applied to a hot water pipe where the temperature needs to be more than 50°C once during the reporting period to pass.
Range thresholds
Range thresholds are useful for pipes where the water must stay between a minimum and maximum temperature at all times during a reporting period.
The above chart shows a range threshold (min. and max.) applied to a Hot POU pipe that must stay between 50-60°C at all times during the reporting period to pass. If the temperature is outside the range once during the period it will fail.
Benefits of using Pipe Monitoring Thresholds
The threshold module helps to easily see when water is outside of safe temperatures and create alerts based on this
Safe temperature threshold regulatory requirements can vary by region and/or customers may have their own institutional internal threshold targets. Customers can now set their own threshold to display in the reporting module and trigger alerts based upon it
Having a temperature range vs a single measure means customers can now monitor scald risk e.g ensuring water that comes out of the tap isn't too hot
Please note post Nov 24, 2022 customers will have to set a custom threshold in order for these modules to display correctly
If you have not yet set your temperature thresholds then the below error message will be displayed in your Pipe Monitoring widget, which prompts you to set your temperature thresholds. Once your temperature thresholds have been set, your Pipe Monitoring Widget will display your data correctly:
How Temperature thresholds will work?
Hot Taps
The threshold works in two ways for hot taps:
1. If you have set both a min and max:
Then the water temp must remain within these temperature band CONSTANTLY to pass. For example if 50 (min) - 70 (Max) - then if the temperature drops below 50 once during a month (or over 70) = fail.
2. If only min Thresholds is set:
Then the water temp only needs to reach this min temperature ONCE. So if Min Temp (50) and no MAX is set, then if the water temp hits >50 once during the month = pass.
Cold Taps
For cold water - if it is the opposite.
If only Min Threshold is set at 20 degrees - then the water temperature needs to drop below 20 degrees ONCE in a month to pass.
Setting your Pipe Monitoring Temperature Thresholds
Thresholds can be set by going to the 'Settings' button at the bottom left hand of your screen in the Infogrid App.
Once here navigate to 'Setup Solutions' and click on 'Manage solutions.'
Now click on 'Manage thresholds' under 'Pipe Monitoring'
Note: Under each Pipe Monitoring Threshold, you are presented with a narrative confirming the conditions that the Pipe Monitoring sensor needs to meet in order to be considered as a "pass".
Considerations
Only users with Manager permissions can change a threshold
Pipe monitoring dashboard widgets will not show data until thresholds are set up
One-off pipe monitoring reports cannot be generated until thresholds are set up
Recurring pipe monitoring reports will fail (and notify user on their email) and say that the thresholds need to be set up before the report can be generated
We have taken advice from a legionella expert - and using the above thresholds (setting only a min temp) - should provide customers with the ability to meet the minimum compliance standards (Manufacturers guidance) - but it is your responsibility as the customer to check with their compliance authority if they have questions.
