Installing Butlr 'Heatic' Sensors

This guide explains how to install a Butlr ‘Heatic' Sensor in a typical installation scenario

Hives should be installed before any associated sensors are installed so that sensors are connected as and when they are installed.

Before you start

Pre-requisites

  1. A Hive to connect to, which is successfully connected to a 4G modem.

  2. The floorplans used to scope the Butlr install with hive networks and Heatic Sensors clearly numbered and defined

Materials for install

  • 4mm screws

  • Rawl plugs

  • Plasterboard fixings

  • Tape measure

Installation

Identify install location

Hive networks are configured before they are delivered to installers. This means that all sensors have a pre-defined sensor type, and hive # that they are paired with.

  1. Identify the Hive network that you are currently installing sensors for using the floor plans

  2. Unbox the sensors and confirm that the numbers on the back of the sensors correspond to the Hive network you are installing

  3. Pick a sensor and identify the MAC address on the back of the sensor. Your floor plan or briefing doc should indicate the specific location for each sensor MAC address, and the install height / location in the room / orientation it should be installed at.

Remember: Sensors should be mounted as accurately as possible to the measurements shown on the floor plan. If you cannot install the sensor in the location indicated, contact your deployment specialist, or reflect this in the sensor deployment form provided by your deployment specialist.

Identify suitable mounting bracket

The appropriate approach to mounting depends on the construction of the surface identified above. There are 5 options:

Mount

Sensor Mode Suitability

Description / Use-case

Magnetic Mount

Either

Most convenient mount for ceilings with ceiling tiles. Can be added to both ceiling and wall mounts to make the mount magnetic and avoid the need to use adhesive pads or screws.

Ceiling Mount

Activity

Standard ceiling mounting for drywall, concrete, wood surfaces.

Hanging Rod

Activity

Used for high ceilings above 3.2m when there is no suspended ceilings or racking.

Wall Mount

Traffic

Standard wall mounting for drywall, concrete, wood surfaces. Design with a fixed angle and doesn’t require adjustment if mounted on a vertical wall. Can be attached using self adhesive pads (preferred) or mechanical fasteners.

Adjustable Mount

Traffic

Door frame mount (install above or under the door frame when there is obstacle under the sensor). Needs adjustment to ensure angle is the same as the fixed wall mount above

Sensors are supplied with all mount types above other than hanging rods and adjustable mounts, which need to be ordered separately. Any mount can be affixed to the surface using supplied self adhesive pads which is preferable, or by anchoring (rawl plugs, plasterboard anchors) and screwing to the surface.

Install Sensor - Activity Mode

Sensors in activity mode should be mounted horizontally facing downwards, as pictured.

  1. Standing under the intended install location, flick the switch to ‘green’ to turn the sensor on. The sensor LED should flash blue whilst connecting to the hive, followed by green upon successful connection

  2. Confirm the sensor has connected to its Hive. The LED should turn off and the Hive should show that +1 sensor has been connected on the screen.

  3. Affix the chosen ceiling mounting bracket to the install location (using magnetic mount, adhesive pad or failing these - wall fixings). Ensure the surface is cleaned thoroughly before using an adhesive pad.

  4. Attach the sensor to the magnetic mounting bracket

Install Sensor - Traffic Mode

Sensors in traffic mode should be affixed to a specific wall mount bracket to ensure that the are correctly positioned.

  1. Complete steps (1) and (2) as above for sensors in activity mode

  2. Measure the width of the doorway above which the sensor is being mounted

  3. Use the measurement, and the following chart, to establish what height the sensor should be mounted at:

  4. Affix the wall mount above the threshold / door using the adhesive pad, central, level and at the height specific in step (3), using the adhesive pad.

  5. Noting the arrows on the back of the sensor, mount the sensors on the traffic mounting bracket, aligning the arrows with the markings on the bracket

Capture Sensor Install Information

To complete configuration of the Butlr sensors, some steps need to be completed by InfoGrid. InfoGrid require information about each sensor installed to do this.

  1. Note the MAC address written on the sensor itself

  2. Measure the height at which the sensor has been installed (m)

  3. Complete the following form following each sensor install, logging the information captured in the steps above. No information will be required if the sensor has been installed in the agreed location on the floor plan / briefing document

Next Steps

Repeat the above steps for all sensors in the Hive Network, before moving on to the next Hive network installation: Installing a Butlr 'Hive'
