Hives should be installed before any associated sensors are installed so that sensors are connected as and when they are installed.

Before you start

Pre-requisites

  1. An active 4G modem to connect to. Installation of a 4G modem is here, but in theory can be a client’s existing wifi network.

  2. The floorplans used to scope the Butlr install with hive networks clearly numbered and defined.

Materials for install

  • 3M adhesive tape for mounting

Installation

Identify install location

Hive networks are configured before they are delivered to installers. This means that all hives have a specific intended location in a building.

  1. Unbox the Hive and identify the network number - this should be indicated with a sticker on the back of the Hive.

  2. Identify the corresponding network on the floor plan, and move the Hive (and all sensors numbered as the same network if desired - this will save picking them up later) to the install area, as indicated on the floor plan

  3. Locate the nearest suitable wall socket. As with all our mains powered hardware, this should be in a location where:

    1. It is not likely to be unplugged

    2. It is out of public view

    3. There are minimal physical / metallic barriers between the Hive and connected sensors (such as walls)

Install Hive

  1. Plug the Hive into the socket using the included wall adapter, and switch on.

  2. Connect the Hive to the 4G modem using an ethernet cable.

  3. Test the connection of the Hive to the network by tapping the Network section of the screen. A signal strength greater than -70db is required (because this is negative, -60db is greater than -70db, for example)

  4. The main screen should show that the Hive is connected to the network.

  5. If out of reach / view, place the hive on a flat surface.

  6. If mounting to a wall, remove the rubber ‘feet’ on the Hive so the surface is flat, and use 2-sided 3M adhesive tape to adhere to the wall.

Configure Hive in InfoGrid App

  1. Log into the Infogrid platform and use the menu to navigate to the 'Sensors' page.

  2. Tap the START INSTALLATION button at the top (right) of the screen.

  3. Scan the QR code of the sensor

Configure the device in the platform (below) and save. The install flow will ask you for:

  1. Building that you’re installing into

  2. Floor you’re installing on

  3. Room (if applicable)

  4. Device name - use a name that reflects the hive network number and location, for example “Hive 1 - Kitchen”

Next Steps

Once a hive is installed, all sensors of the same Hive network can be installed and configured here.
