Infogrid solution uses temperature sensors which measure the temperature of the outside of the pipework.
The offset compensates for the metal pipework and provides a proxy of temperature of the water in the pipe.
The sensor accurately measures the temperature of the outside of the pipe, which does not heat up/cool down to the same extent as the water within the pipe, hence an offset is applied to compensate for the difference in temperature between water and measured temperature of the pipework.
