Overview
This solution is based on data from sensors measuring the number of people in - or moving through - a location. This can be cross-referenced with the capacity of a location to understand utilization across your space.
Filter Controls
Just like the other solution views, you can select different buildings and spaces at the top as your data source, and then choose the timeframe to view data for.
At the top, view live data for the selected sensors providing an overall overview of your building occupancy.
Charts and data visualizations
There are 5 visualizations in this solution and they are grouped in sections based on the questions that they answer:
When were my desk areas most used?
Desk utilization by day/time
When was desk occupancy highest?
Most occupied
How many people used my spaces?
Meeting room person count
How well utilized was each space type?
Space utilization over time
What was the footfall at the thresholds I'm monitoring?
Building occupancy over time
Generating reports from Solution Views
You can now generate reports for specific visualizations found in Solution Views by simply clicking on 'Export Table.' Doing this will generate a report that will be dowloaded to your device.
When were my desk areas most used?
This visualization shows the time and day when desk utilization was lowest and highest ( % ) in the selected time period. You can also view the following:
Desk utilization (in % ) on x day at x time
How many desks were being used on x day at x time
The average busiest hour during the selected time period
The busiest day in the selected time period
The busiest hour and day for desk utilization
For example, for the hour spanning 19:00-20:00, only Desk A is occupied between 19:00:00 and 19:17:50 (29.72% of the hour). Utilization of the space is calculated by dividing this by the capacity of the space (29.72% / 8 = 3.7%).
For the hour spanning 18:00-19:00:
- Desk A is occupied between 18:16:27 and 19:00:00 (72.6%)
- Desk B is occupied between 18:22:07 and 18:52:10 (50.1%)
- The utilization of the space is calculated as (72.6% + 50.1%) / 8 = 15.3%.
When was desk occupancy highest?
This visualization helps users understand the busiest individual building, floors, or spaces during the selected time period by providing a ranking of the spaces with the highest number of occupied desks.
Use the drop down to select your metrics: “occupancy” or “utilization”. Occupancy provides a ranking by the number of desks that are most occupied in a space during a given time period. Utilization provides a ranking (in %) of all desks by what is most occupied in relation to the space.
Note that: we calculate unique desk usage rather than all desk usage. For instance, if desk A is occupied from 09:00 to 09:30, but is then occupied from 09:45 to 10:00 then this second usage will not be counted a second time within the hour of 09:00 to 10:00 as this is not a unique desk usage; the desk has already been used in this hour.
Also note that: when selecting a day (or custom up to 6 days) the automatic granularity is hourly
but when selecting a longer period (at least 7 days) then the automatic granularity is day
. This can lead to peak usages appearing differently e.g. when changing from looking at a single day to across a whole week.
Answers this section provides:
Buildings/floors/spaces in my estate with the highest level of desk utilisation during the selected time period
Buildings/floors/spaces in my estate with the most occupied desks (by number of desks) during the selected time period
The % utilisation of desks by location on x day
The number of desks occupied on x day, and the utilisation % for each space
How many people used my spaces?
This visualization shows the number of people using meeting rooms at any given time by showing the amount of time (in %) that each meeting room was occupied by x number of people.
Use the dropdown to filter your selected time period (100% of time can be 24 hours/day, or office hours incl. or excl. weekends).
You can also see the following:
The maximum capacity of each meeting room
The average number of people in each meeting room during time period selected
The highest number of people in each meeting room during time period selected
How well utilized was each space type?
This visualization allows you to understand the level of utilization (in %) of a particular space in the selected time period.
Updates to "How well utilized was each space type?"
Before the hourly utilization data for desk areas could be missing when sensors did not send occupancy events for prolonged periods (e.g. overnight or if they were offline), this mainly affected Vergesense sensors. The missing hours resulted in the "Average hourly utilization" summary value being calculated incorrectly and the average (mean) value being inflated.
With the new update the data in this visualization is now more accurate by automatically adjusting the data to ensure that the occupancy is calculated correctly and accounts for gaps in data due to it being overnight or offline.
Additionally, when you select a space type, a chart with the hourly utilization values will be displayed. With the new update to the platform, the data will be automatically grouped together into 15-minute intervals in order to accommodate all time zones.
Our tests indicate that despite the slight decline in utilization associated with the new calculations, the results are nearly identical to the original data.
What was the footfall at the thresholds I'm monitoring?
This visualization shows the change in building occupants over time.
You can toggle the overlay metric to view how desk occupancy compares to building occupancy.
