Overview

When collecting pulse data it is important to understand how the number of pulses actually get translated to an amount of energy. The basic idea is that a pulse represents some amount of energy consumed by a load. The number of pulses that happens between two points in time is multiplied by a number to get the amount of energy consumed. This article will go into more detail about pulse multipliers, where to find them, and how to manage them in the platform.

Pulse Multiplier vs Reading Multiplier

Pulse Multipliers are for multiplying the pulse that comes out of your meter, which gets sent to our platform. The Reading multiplier is for multiplying what you read on the front of the meter when taking a manual reading.

Are there other names for a pulse multiplier?

Pulse multipliers can be called different things depending on the meter type. All of the following below could be the name of your pulse multiplier:

  • Pulse Multiplier

  • Pulse Value

  • Contact Multiplier

  • Contact Value

  • kWhc value

  • KYZ multiplier

  • Pulse Weight

Where is my pulse multiplier?

The pulse multiplier can be found in multiple places. Some of the common ones are:

  • Written on the junction box co-located with a utility meter

  • Written on the actual utility meter

  • Contact your local utility company account executive to find out
Note: the pulse multiplier is value typically less than 10, and can be a decimal.

Do I use the 2 wire or 3 wire pulse value?

Aquicore uses the 2 wire value. If you only have a 3 wire value then all you have to do is multiply the 3 wire value by 2 to get the 2 wire pulse value.

I still cannot find my multiplier!

No worries. Just contact us at support@aquicore.com

Managing Multipliers in the Platform

To enter your multipliers, go to the Devices and Equipment module in your Aquicore account. Click into the device you want and on the device details page you will see fields to enter your pulse and reading multipliers as shown below.
