Step by step instructions to help you troubleshoot Hub connection issues

The Airthings (AT) Space Hub (formerly known as “Hub”) acts as a connector for your Airthings (AT) IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) devices and brings them online. When the Space Hub is not powered or not connected, the data of the devices will not be sent to the cloud and therefore there will be no data on the Infogrid platform.

Before starting detailed troubleshooting, please make sure always to try these steps first:

  1. Check for service disruptions or planned maintenance on the Infogrid status page.

  2. Restart the Space Hub by removing it from the power outlet, re-insert after 30 seconds, and check if it comes online within 5 minutes

The Space Hub has 3 lights and they all need to light up:

Problem

Corrective action

The Space Hub is offline

  • Plug the Space Hub in or move to a new power source

  • If the power supply might be faulty, try using a power supply from another Hub.

  • If using an extension cord test it on another device to see if the extension cord is faulty

The Space Hub has low or no cellular connection

  • When powered, the hub will initially use the built-in eSIM for cellular connectivity.

  • Move the Hub to a location with better signal strength, such as near a window or an outer wall (similar to improving mobile phone reception).

  • If the cellular connection remains unstable, consider switching to an Ethernet connection.

The Space Hub has no ethernet connection

  • When an Ethernet cable is plugged in, the Hub will attempt to connect via Ethernet and the cellular connection is disabled.

  • Unplug the ethernet cable to try cellular connection. If this works, the Space Hub is fine but the ethernet cable may be faulty or the ethernet may not work

  • The Hub uses DHCP and port 443 for HTTPS communication with the Airthings cloud. Ensure that your network or firewall is not blocking this traffic.

  • Whitelist the following domains to allow proper ethernet communication:

    • hub-api.airthin.gs

    • hub-api.dev.airthin.gs

    • global-api.airthin.gs

Network testing for Ethernet

To confirm if the ethernet connection is functional:

  1. Connect a computer to the same ethernet cable used by the Hub.

  2. Open a browser and navigate to https://hub-api.airthin.gs/ If successful, you should see the message {"message":"Not Found"}, which confirms that the connection is working.

Below is a screenshot showing the confirmation message:

  • If the ethernet connection still fails, try connecting the Hub to another network, such as a private or home network, to rule out any network restrictions.

  • If ethernet connection does not work, consider connecting the Hub via cellular by unplugging the Ethernet cable.

SmartLink light is off

  • Possible issue with the device, check that it is working
