Automated Demand Management (ADM) Functional Testing

An overview of Noda's ADM testing process

Written by Jack Spruill

Before Automated Demand Management (ADM) is activated at your property, Noda performs a controlled functional test to verify that the system is working properly and that all connected equipment responds as expected.

What is the purpose of this test?

This test allows us to confirm that ADM can safely and effectively reduce building demand during future demand response events while maintaining occupant comfort. It also helps ensure that all equipment returns to normal operation once an event ends.

What should you expect?

On the day of testing, Noda will temporarily enable ADM and run a scheduled test event.

Test Schedule

  • ADM Enabled: 12:00 PM (local time)

  • Test Event: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM (local time)

During the Test

ADM will temporarily reduce building demand by gradually adjusting cooling equipment.

During the event, you may notice:

  • Slight increases to cooling temperature setpoints in some areas

  • Minor, gradual changes in zone temperatures

  • No abrupt equipment changes or shutdowns

For buildings utilizing VAV systems, cooling setpoints may be adjusted incrementally up to a maximum of 78°F for zones actively calling for cooling. These changes are introduced gradually to help minimize occupant impact while validating system performance.During the Test

After the Test

Once the event concludes:

  • Load-shedding adjustments will be gradually removed

  • Equipment setpoints will automatically return to normal operating values

  • Noda will verify that all systems have returned to their standard configuration

Next Steps

Following a successful test, ADM will be disabled until the official ADM kickoff. This validation helps ensure the system is operating correctly and is ready for future demand response events.
