Navigating the OAP website

The Ontology Alignment Project is an open data tagging and modeling methodology to quickly align processes around a consistent standard. This article provides an introduction to the OAP website and how to navigate during system integration

The OAP website divides the ontology into different sections based on device or equip type, functions, space types and system. All navigation through the site is handled by the left-hand sidebar that users can expand and contract as needed.

System integrators working on tagging within an integration framework will likely spend most of their time in the Operational Systems section. This section is further divided by the various systems that are found on the operational, or facilities management, side of a building.

As you click the left-side navigation, you notice the sections expand further to show the equips that make up a system and the variations of equips of any type. For example, within Operational Systems you’ll find Mechanical which expands to present options like Air Handling Unit, Balancing Damper, Boiler, etc. Clicking Air Handling Unit further expands to present all the AHU variants that have been modeled to date by the OAP working group.

Find the AHU type you’re looking for to review the ontology alignment, marker tags, identification and point references suggested to model that equip within your system.

Breaking down the sections

Within an equipment or asset page on the OAP, you will find all the information needed to model that equipment. Details include:

OAP type – the name and code at the top of the page.

Description

How this aligns with other ontologies

Haystack card – this is an indication of the tags you have to apply to that object in order to tag in accordance with Haystack and by extension the OAP.

Identification – naming conventions

References – relationships to other equips

Searching the OAP

The OAP is searchable by point, equipment, system, etc. The search dynamically populates a list and presents all the options as you type.
